1998-2002 Chevrolet Camaro 5.7L LS1 / Pontiac Firebird 5.7L LS1 Vortech Supercharer
From the factory, the 5.7 liter LS1 engine on the 1998-2002 Chevy Camaro and Pontiac Firebird produces 315 hp at 5,200 rpm and 335 lb ft of torque at 4,000 rpm. The addition of a Vortech supercharging system can increase the horsepower from 320 to 418 and torque from 345 lb ft to 414 lb ft. A Vortech High Output (HO) supercharging system raises the stakes even more. The HO system bumps hp from 320 to 470 and torque from 345 lb ft to 414 lb ft.Vortech systems are highly regarded for their dependability and performance as well as the clear and detailed instructions that come with the kit. While some people love the sound of the supercharged engine at idle, some consider it a bit noisy, but not enough to be a deal breaker. In fact the Vortech has a reputation of quietly pinning the driver to the seat and lasting for tens of thousands of miles under fairly tough conditions.
The Vortech supercharger features a highly efficient impeller tested under rigorous conditions at Vortech's own supercharger test cell. They also come with the option of a fuel management upgrade, with high capacity fuel injectors, a high flow fuel pump and your own ECM handheld programmer. The HO systems have a dual pass charge cooler that makes for extra horsepower and that is virtually maintenance free. The oil feed systems are designed to provide perfect lubrication and cooling for the kit, even under prolonged boost conditions.
Complete engine oil fed supercharger street legal systems come with a three year limited warranty. A number of different fit configurations are available, and all are smog legal in all 50 states. The basic standard system starts at $5,600.00. A polished standard system bumps the price up by about $350. The HO systems start at $6,700.00 for basic systems and go up to $7,000 for polished systems. The prices for the HO systems are the same whether for the 1998 to 2000 model Camaro or Firebird with the LS1 engine or for the 2001-2002 models with the LS 1 engine.
